 1        AN ACT with regard to education.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        (105 ILCS 5/2-3.131 new)
 5        Sec.  2-3.131.  Character  education;  survey.  The State
 6    Board of Education shall survey school districts to determine
 7    their needs related to the  adoption  and  implementation  of
 8    character  education  programs.  The State Board of Education
 9    shall report on the findings of the  survey  to  the  General
10    Assembly  on or before January 1, 2002 as provided in Section
11    3.1 of the General Assembly Organization Act.

12        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
13    becoming law.
