1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2244
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend House Bill 2244 as follows:
3 on page 1, line 5, by replacing "Section 11-310" with
4 "Sections 11-310 and 12-208"; and
5 on page 2, by replacing lines 26 and 27 with following:
6 "(625 ILCS 5/12-208) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-208)
7 Sec. 12-208. Signal lamps and signal devices.
8 (a) Every vehicle other than an antique vehicle
9 displaying an antique plate operated in this State shall be
10 equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle
11 which shall display a red or amber light visible from a
12 distance of not less than 500 feet to the rear in normal
13 sunlight and which shall be actuated upon application of the
14 service (foot) brake, and which may but need not be
15 incorporated with other rear lamps. During times when lighted
16 lamps are not required, an antique vehicle may be equipped
17 with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of such vehicle of the
18 same type originally installed by the manufacturer as
19 original equipment and in working order. However, at all
20 other times, except as provided in subsection (a-1), such
21 antique vehicle must be equipped with stop lamps meeting the
22 requirements of Section 12-208 of this Act.

1 (a-1) An antique vehicle may display a blue light or
2 lights of up to one inch in diameter as part of the vehicle's
3 rear stop lamp or lamps.
4 (b) Every motor vehicle other than an antique vehicle
5 displaying an antique plate shall be equipped with an
6 electric turn signal device which shall indicate the
7 intention of the driver to turn to the right or to the left
8 in the form of flashing lights located at and showing to the
9 front and rear of the vehicle on the side of the vehicle
10 toward which the turn is to be made. The lamps showing to the
11 front shall be mounted on the same level and as widely spaced
12 laterally as practicable and, when signaling, shall emit a
13 white or amber light, or any shade of light between white and
14 amber. The lamps showing to the rear shall be mounted on the
15 same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable and,
16 when signaling, shall emit a red or amber light. An antique
17 vehicle shall be equipped with a turn signal device of the
18 same type originally installed by the manufacturer as
19 original equipment and in working order.
20 (c) Every trailer and semitrailer shall be equipped with
21 an electric turn signal device which indicates the intention
22 of the driver in the power unit to turn to the right or to
23 the left in the form of flashing red or amber lights located
24 at the rear of the vehicle on the side toward which the turn
25 is to be made and mounted on the same level and as widely
26 spaced laterally as practicable.
27 (d) Turn signal lamps must be visible from a distance of
28 not less than 300 feet in normal sunlight.
29 (e) Motorcycles and motor-driven cycles need not be
30 equipped with electric turn signals. Antique vehicles need
31 not be equipped with turn signals unless such were installed
32 by the manufacturer as original equipment.
