 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The Senate is grateful to those members who have
 3    devoted their energy and talent to  the  betterment  of  this
 4    body  and  the  well  being  of  the  people  of the State of
 5    Illinois; and

 6        WHEREAS, Elga L. Jefferies of Chicago  was  appointed  by
 7    the Democratic Legislative Committee of the Third Legislative
 8    District  and  took  the  oath of office December 19, 2002 to
 9    fill the Senate vacancy created by the resignation of Senator
10    Margaret Smith on December 12, 2002; and

11        WHEREAS, Senator Jefferies attended her first meeting  of
12    the Senate when it convened on January 6, 2003; and

13        WHEREAS,  Senator  Jefferiers'  appointment to the Senate
14    was the most recent achievement in a long career of community
15    service and activism that has included service as legislative
16    assistant to State  Representative  Lovana  Jones,  Assistant
17    Mayor  of Bronzeville, and a board member of Palmer House for
18    Boys; therefore, be it;

19        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
20    ASSEMBLY  OF  THE  STATE  OF ILLINOIS, that we offer our best
21    wishes to Senator Elga L. Jefferies upon her retirement  from
22    the  Senate; we offer hope for a rewarding future for her and
23    her three daughters and one son and four  grandchildren;  and
24    be it further

25        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of  this preamble and
26    resolution be presented to Senator Elga  L.  Jefferies  as  a
27    measure  of  our  esteem  and  respect  for our colleague and
28    friend.
