 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Senator Judy Myers loyally served  the  citizens
 3    of the 53rd Senate District from 1997 to 2002; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Senator  Myers  will  now  use her expertise to
 5    serve  as  liaison  between  the   Illinois   Department   of
 6    Agriculture  and  our  state University agriculture programs;
 7    and

 8        WHEREAS, As a legislator Senator Myers accomplished  much
 9    during  her  tenure  in  the Senate, most notably, working to
10    protect  landowners  when  the  Miami  Nation  threatened   a
11    land-grab in the eastern counties of Illinois; and

12        WHEREAS,  Senator  Myers worked to help the rural economy
13    through loan programs and  cooperatives,  helped  extend  the
14    sales  tax  credit  for  ethanol and expanded corn-to-ethanol
15    research; and

16        WHEREAS,  On  the  education  front,  she  helped  create
17    cooperative high schools, a unique method  of  reorganization
18    that  could  expand  learning  opportunities  for students in
19    smaller school districts; and

20        WHEREAS, She also supported consumer issues, including  a
21    ban  on  telephone companies' practice of switching or adding
22    unwanted services and better access to health care and health
23    insurance; and

24        WHEREAS, Senator Myers cosponsored the laws to double the
25    state's personal income tax exemption and worked to eliminate
26    the state sales tax on gasoline, gaining a  temporary  repeal
27    when gas prices soared nationwide; and

28        WHEREAS, Senator Myers also expanded the Crime Victim and
29    Witness  Notification  System  and  worked to help victims of
30    domestic violence; and

 1        WHEREAS, Her  new  position  will  allow  her  much  more
 2    freedom  to  travel  with her husband, Mel, and to spend time
 3    with her five children and six grandchildren;  therefore,  be
 4    it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
 6    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that  Senator  Judy  Myers
 7    will  be  sorely  missed by both her constituents in the 53rd
 8    District and her colleagues in the Illinois Senate; and be it
 9    further

10        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
11    presented  to  Judy  Myers  and  her  family  with  heartfelt
12    congratulations and best wishes for the future.
