1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of William
4 "Harris" Franklin, Sr. of Pleasant Hill on Thursday, November
5 7, 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Franklin was born on December 9, 1919 in
7 Nebo to Edward and Fannie Martin Franklin; he married Lois
8 Barton in 1944 in Pleasant Hill; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Franklin owned and operated Franklin's Red
10 and White Grocery Store in Pleasant Hill for many years;
11 later, he worked as sales manager for the Bergman Meat
12 Packing Co. in Pittsfield for 28 years until his retirement;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Franklin was an active and energetic member
15 of the community; he served as the Pike County Democratic
16 Party Chairman for more than 20 years; he served on the
17 Pleasant Hill School Board and announced Wolves football
18 games for 50 years; he was honored by having the Pleasant
19 Hill High School football field named after him; he was a
20 member of First Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill; and
21 WHEREAS, His passing has been felt by many, especially
22 his wife, Lois; his sons, Bill (wife, Marcia) Franklin and
23 John B. (wife, Karen) Franklin; his daughters, Kay Taliaferro
24 and Sue Franklin; his five grandchildren and five
25 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Edrah Goltz; therefore,
26 be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
29 of William "Harris" Franklin, Sr. of Pleasant Hill and offer
30 our sincere condolences to his family; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2 with our deepest sympathy.
