1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Edwin M.
4 "Bud" Zeman of Park Ridge on October 14, 2002, at the age of
5 62; and
6 WHEREAS, Bud was born in Chicago and grew up in Edison
7 Park; he was a graduate of St. Juliana school and North Park
8 Academy; at North Park Academy he was an All-City football
9 player and was also captain of his high school football team;
10 he attended Upper Iowa University on a football scholarship;
11 while still in college, he was a member of the crew that won
12 the 1960 Chicago-Mackinac boat race; and
13 WHEREAS, Bud met Dorothy Sternaman in college and they
14 married during their senior year at Upper Iowa University;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, After graduation Bud worked as a salesman for
17 Bostich and became the company's top salesman; he moved into
18 construction, built a number of homes and opened up a real
19 estate company with his mother, Marianne; and
20 WHEREAS, Bud became a national broker for mobile home
21 parks in the 1970s; in 1983, he put together a group of
22 investors to build his first mobile home park; he bought and
23 sold mobile homes and bought, sold, and managed mobile home
24 parks; at the time of his passing his company owned 40 parks
25 in the Midwest; and
26 WHEREAS, Bud was the originator of Zeman Construction,
27 Abbey Builders Supply, and Zeman Realty-MHC; through Zeman
28 Real Estate in Edison Park, he was active for many years in
29 the Edison Park Chamber of Commerce; he was a founder of the
30 Illinois Housing Institute, and a member of the National
31 Association of Realtors, the Illinois Association of Realtors

1 and Illinois State-Legislative Aid; he was a registered
2 lobbyist; and
3 WHEREAS, He was an active member of St. Paul of the Cross
4 Catholic Church and a major benefactor of the Parish Life
5 Center addition; he was a coach for Park Ridge Baseball, he
6 worked with Park Ridge Youth Soccer, and he sponsored many of
7 the area sports teams; he owned Pineapple Farm near Harvard
8 where he loved to run the farm equipment on weekends; every
9 year he took friends to Las Vegas for his birthday; and
10 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
11 and friends; he was the loving husband of Dorothy Zeman for
12 41 years; the father of Kimberly (Jeffrey) Walker, Terry and
13 Edward Zeman; the grandfather of Patrick Zeman, William,
14 Margaret and Elizabeth Walker; the brother of Bob (Kathy)
15 Zeman and Marianne (David) Smith and the late Terry Zeman;
16 the uncle of Roger, Michael, Daniel and David Smith, Laura
17 Martin, Robert, Amy Hogue and Matthew and Marcus Zeman; and
18 the great-uncle of Erin and Katlyn Zeman, Tyler Hogue, Riley,
19 Thomas, Hannah and Garrett Smith; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
22 all who knew him, the passing of Edwin M. "Bud" Zeman and
23 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
24 be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to the family of Edwin M. "Bud" Zeman as an
27 expression of our sympathy.
