1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Illinois learned with
3 great sadness of the death of Violet A. Mathias of Blue Mound
4 on October 30, 2002; and
5 WHEREAS, Violet A. Mathias was born on March 19, 1929 in
6 Chicago to Ignacious and Anna Kapala; she married Malcolm
7 Mathias on August 13, 1950 in Chicago; and
8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mathias was an active and energetic citizen
9 of Blue Mound and tirelessly promoted activities for her
10 community; she was a Cub Scout den mother, an American Field
11 Service activist, a Blue Mound Grade School volunteer, a
12 member of the Blue Mound Fall Festival Committee, and served
13 as president of the Blue Mound Rotary Club from 2000 to 2001;
14 she was a prolific writer for the Blue Mound Leader
15 newspaper; she was a member of the Blue Mound Women's Club,
16 Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and the Women's Medical
17 Auxiliary; and
18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mathias will be remembered for many things,
19 but especially her love of her Chicago Cubs, Republican
20 candidates, and speaking Polish; and
21 WHEREAS, Her loss will be deeply felt by many, especially
22 her husband, Malcolm R. Mathias, M.D.; her sons, Gregory L.
23 Mathias and wife Debbie, Randy W. Mathias, Douglas A. Mathias
24 and wife Christi, James A. Mathias and fiancee Loni; her
25 brothers, Andrew Kapala and wife Josie, Sammy Kapala and wife
26 JoAnn; her grandchildren, Derek Mathias, Trent Mathias,
27 Krista Mathias, Andrew Mathias, and her step-grandchild,
28 Jimmy Boliek; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the loss of
31 Violet A. Mathias and offer our sincere condolences to her

2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Violet A. Mathias.
