1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were saddened
3 to learn of the death of Lawrence G. Kory of Glenview who
4 passed away on September 30, 2002; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Kory was born in Lombard, Illinois on
6 September 17, 1924; he graduated from what is now Glenbard
7 West High School; he attended the University of New Mexico
8 where he went to officers' candidate school and received his
9 engineering degree; in 1949 he married Lucille Frenzel; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Kory served in the Army during World War II
11 and the Korean War; during World War II he was a foot soldier
12 in the Easter morning invasion of Okinawa, one of the last
13 battles of the war; he also served in the Philippines and
14 other areas of the Pacific theater; during the Korean war, he
15 first served stateside, commanding an army company, and then
16 flew to Grand Turk Island in the Caribbean to construct an
17 airfield; in October 1952, he went to Korea to construct
18 airfields; and
19 WHEREAS, After World War II, Mr. Kory began working for
20 Frenzel Brothers Construction, which was involved in road
21 construction (he also met his wife Lucille there); after
22 returning to Chicago from Korea in 1953, Mr. Kory returned to
23 work in the heavy construction industry; he started Frenzel
24 Construction Co. with two of his wife's relatives in 1960;
25 among other projects, the company worked on the Edens
26 Expressway and rebuilt the Santa Fe railroad yards on the
27 Southwest Side; and
28 WHEREAS, In 1971 Mr. Kory joined the board of the
29 Illinois Road Builders Association and became president of
30 the group in 1979; he also served on the board of the
31 American Road Builders Association; he sold Frenzel
32 Construction Co. when he retired in 1994; and

1 WHEREAS, Mr. Kory also constructed two industrial parks
2 in the north suburbs in the early 1970's; he served on the
3 board of directors of 1st Trust and Savings Bank of Glenview;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, Lawrence G. Kory's passing will be deeply felt
6 by his family and friends, especially his wife Lucille; his
7 daughters, Pamela Peter and Deborah Kory; his son, Charles;
8 his brother Joseph Korczyk; and three grandchildren;
9 therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
12 and regret the death of Lawrence G. Kory and extend our
13 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Lawrence G. Kory.
