1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincerest condolences to the family and friends
4 of former State Representative A.T. "Tom" McMaster, who
5 passed away on September 3, 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, A.T. McMaster was born on June 21, 1918 near
7 Oneida, Illinois to Arthur T. and Hannah R. Eck McMaster; he
8 married Mary Catherine O'Connor on June 17, 1943, in Wataga;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Representative McMaster attended grade school in
11 Copley Township, graduated from Oneida High School, and
12 attended Knox College; and
13 WHEREAS, Representative McMaster was a farmer in Copley
14 Township, Knox County; and
15 WHEREAS, Representative McMaster was active in State and
16 local politics for 33 years, starting in 1952 as township
17 assessor, and served on the Knox County Board of Supervisors
18 for 10 years, serving as chairman for four years; in 1971, he
19 began the first of eight terms as State representative of the
20 73rd District of the Illinois House of Representatives and
21 was known for his work with land reclamation and strip mines;
22 he retired in 1987; and
23 WHEREAS, In November 1999, State Representative Don
24 Moffitt and State Senator Carl Hawkinson worked with the
25 Illinois Department of Natural Resources to rename Snakeden
26 Hollow Lake after Representative McMaster; and
27 WHEREAS, Representative McMaster was a member of First
28 United Presbyterian Church, the Oneida Masonic Lodge 337, the
29 Knox County Farm Bureau, the former Oneida Lions Club, Phi
30 Delta Theta Fraternity, and the Knox College 50 Year Club;

1 WHEREAS, The passing of Representative A.T. McMaster will
2 be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his
3 wife, Catherine McMaster; his sons, Tom (wife, Deanie)
4 McMaster and Jim McMaster; his daughters, Mary (husband,
5 Barry) Stein, Peg (husband, Roger) Wenstrom, and Marti
6 (husband, David) Hurst; his sister, Eve Verg; his 14
7 grandchildren; and his 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be
8 it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 all who knew him, the death of former State Representative
12 A.T. "Tom" McMaster of Oneida, Illinois; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of former State Representative A.T.
15 McMaster with our sincere condolences.
