1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincerest condolences to the family and friends
4 of Dr. Putrina Dunlap-Deas, who passed away on May 30, 2002,
5 in Columbia, South Carolina; and
6 WHEREAS. Dr. Putrina Dunlap-Deas was born on April 28,
7 1965 in Chicago, Illinois; she was the daughter of Mrs.
8 Rudell Betts Dunlap Jackson and the late Eddie Lee Dunlap;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunlap-Deas' educational training included
11 Loyola University of Chicago, where she received a Bachelors
12 of Science degree with honors in Pre-Med, the University of
13 Illinois College of Medicine, where she received her medical
14 degree and graduated with honors in Genetics, and the
15 Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where she completed her
16 residency (Orthopaedic Surgery), the James A. Dickson
17 Fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Orthopaedic Surgery, and
18 an Internship in General Surgery; and
19 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunlap-Deas' professional employment
20 included the University of South Carolina School of Medicine;
21 there she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department
22 of Orthopaedic Surgery; she also worked with the Ohio
23 Permanente Medical Group in the Department of Orthopaedic
24 Surgery (Cleveland, OH); At the time of her death, she was in
25 private practice in the area of Orthopaedic Surgery with Dr.
26 Barry Oliver; and
27 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunlap-Deas was licensed by the American
28 Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons in the states of Ohio and South
29 Carolina, by the Advanced Life Support, Metro Health Medical
30 Center, and by the National Board of Medical Examiners; her
31 membership in professional organizations included the
32 Columbia Medical Society, South Carolina Medical Association;

1 Congaree Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association, and
2 the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; her research
3 presentations were also extensive; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunlap-Deas was united in holy matrimony to
5 Attorney John Benjamin Deas; they relocated to Columbia,
6 South Carolina, from Cleveland, Ohio in July 1999; she was a
7 member of Grace Church Ministries in Columbia, where she was
8 a member of the Women' Ministry; and
9 WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Putrina Dunlap-Deas will be
10 deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially by her
11 devoted husband, John; her loving mother, Rudell Jackson; her
12 special big brother, Targett Johnson; her affectionate big
13 sister, Lennette (husband, Arthur) Dunlap-Hill; her mother
14 in-law, Maggie L. Deas; her friend, Mama Jeri; and her many
15 nephews, nieces, and a host of other loving relatives and
16 friends; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 all who knew her, the death of Dr. Putrina Dunlap-Deas of
20 Columbia, South Carolina; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Dr. Putrina Dunlap-Deas with our
23 sincere condolences.
