1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of James Patrick "Larry" Leonard of
4 Waukegan, who passed away July 4, 2002; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Leonard was an active member of St. Dismas
6 Parish and served as a lector; he was a member of the
7 Illinois Association of Broadcasters and the Lake County
8 Realtors Association, and he had been a committeeman and
9 active in the Lake County Democratic Party; he served as a
10 board member for Park Place Senior Citizens Council and was
11 an Eagle Scout; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Leonard graduated from the University of
13 Iowa in 1956 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism; he served
14 in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 as a Broadcasting
15 Specialist with Armed Forces Radio Network in Japan; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Leonard worked at Waukegan Radios Station
17 WKRS for 19 years and had received awards for programming
18 from the American Heart Association, Illinois Bar
19 Association, and Illinois Medical Association; he wrote radio
20 scripts for Moment of Destiny (a five minute moment of
21 history) and wrote a syndicated column on the history of
22 Illinois; and
23 WHEREAS, Mr. Leonard served in the Illinois State Senate
24 from 1977 to 1979 in District 31; he also worked in Public
25 Relations for the Illinois Senate Democrats and for the RTA;
26 from 1985 to present, Mr. Leonard worked in real estate sales
27 for Callahan Blanding and Schaper in Waukegan; and
28 WHEREAS, Mr. Leonard will be deeply missed by all those
29 who knew him and loved him, especially his wife, Linda, with
30 whom he was united in marriage in January of 1960; his
31 children, Susan Elleen (Robert) Haney, James Patrick (Andrea)

1 Leonard, III, Joseph Robert (Inmauculada) Leonard, Ann-Thelma
2 Marie (Daniel) Donohue, and Mary Kathleen (Brett) Kaether;
3 his grandchildren, Katherine Rose Haney, Michael Bowen Haney,
4 James Joseph Haney, Quinn Parr Kaether, Megan Marie Kaether,
5 Morgan Marie Donohue, and Spencer R. Donohue; and his nieces
6 and nephews; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 his family and friends, the death of James Patrick "Larry"
10 Leonard; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of James Leonard with our sincere
13 condolences.
