1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 extended their sincerest condolences to the family and
4 friends of Edwin M. Schroeder, who passed away on June 11,
5 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, Edwin M. Schroeder, who was born in Chicago,
7 worked in Zenith Electronics Corporation's Chicago plant to
8 pay for attending the University of Illinois at
9 Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a bachelor's degree in
10 business; he received a law degree from DePaul University and
11 eventually served as Zenith's corporate secretary before
12 retiring in 1982; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder served in the United States Army
14 in Europe during World War II and met his wife, Esther, in
15 1947 at an Amvets dance; they married in 1948 and moved to
16 Grayslake in 1949; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder served as mayor of Grayslake from
18 1977 to 1989; during his tenure, Grayslake's population grew
19 by more than 20 percent; in addition, he started the process
20 that would connect the village to Lake Michigan water; after
21 he left office, Mr. Schroeder remained active in Grayslake's
22 civic affairs; and
23 WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder was involved in several Grayslake
24 civic organizations, including the Lions Club, of which he
25 was president for 2 terms; and
26 WHEREAS, The passing of Edwin M. Schroeder will be deeply
27 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife,
28 Esther; his sons, Edwin Jr. and Evan; his daughter, Esther
29 DiMatteo; his sisters, Bernice Bartell and LaVerne Heelein;
30 his seven grandchildren; and his four great-grandchildren;
31 therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3 all who knew him, the death of Edwin M. Schroeder of
4 Grayslake, Illinois; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Edwin M. Schroeder with our
7 sincere condolences.
