1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the passing of Richard Clark Grimmett, Jr., who
4 died March 10, 2002; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Grimmett was born June 3, 1926, in Eolia,
6 Missouri, the son of Richard Clark Grimmett, Sr. and Dola
7 Perlee Grimmett; he married Edythe Malone Ward in Chicago in
8 1954 at St. Edmund's Episcopal Church; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Grimmett graduated from Jacksonville High
10 School and attended Illinois College; he became well known
11 for his talent as a baseball player and a hard-hitting
12 football player; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Grimmett served in the U.S. Navy during
14 World War II and in the Army during the Korean War; he was
15 stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station and in the
16 Philippines during World War II, and at Fort Leonard Wood and
17 in France during the Korean War; while in the Army, he earned
18 the medal "Rifle Marksman"; after his Honorable Discharge,
19 Mr. Grimmett worked for the United States Post Office and
20 retired after 31 years; following retirement, he worked at
21 Peoples Gas Company and as a real estate agent; and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Grimmett participated in Masons Lodge and
23 was a member of 1st Tee Golf Club and Skyway Teachers Bowling
24 League; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling
25 outside the United States; he was a faithful member of Church
26 of The Holy Cross (Episcopal) for over 41 years, was the
27 immediate Senior Warden of the church Vestry and served in
28 other capacities when needed; and
29 WHEREAS, Richard Clark Grimmett, Jr. will be deeply
30 missed by all those who knew him and loved him, especially
31 his mother, Dola Crowder Grimmett; his sons, Richard

1 (Laverne) Ward Grimmett, former Dallas Cowboys-NFL, and
2 Keevan A. Grimmett, former NFL-CFL; his granddaughter,
3 Cambren; his sisters, Marietha Richardson and Juanita
4 Christian; his sister-in-law, Ethel (Ralston) Tracy; and his
5 many loved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and
6 co-workers; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 his family and friends, the death of Richard Clark Grimmett,
10 Jr.; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Richard Clark Grimmett, Jr. with
13 our sincere condolences.
