2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY

4 Senate Resolution No. 346
5 Offered by Senators Silverstein, Obama, Ronen and Madigan
6 WHEREAS, The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has entered a
7 new phase of terrorism against Israeli civilians; and
8 WHEREAS, A recent suicide bombing attack was carried out
9 against the civilian residents of the community of Karnei
10 Shomron on February 16, 2002; and
11 WHEREAS, Two teenagers were killed in the Karnei Shomron
12 attack, one of whom was a 14-year-old whose parents are U.S.
13 citizens; and
14 WHEREAS, Hillel Trattner, a Chicagoan who was recently
15 married, was gravely wounded in the attack, and his wife was
16 also injured; and
17 WHEREAS, Steve Braun, a Chicagoan, was also wounded in
18 the attack; and
19 WHEREAS, The United States of America is committed to the
20 safety and security of its citizens everywhere; and
21 WHEREAS, The United States of America has made it a
22 national priority to put an end to the scourge of such
23 barbaric terror attacks; therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
25 ASSEMBLY, that the Members of the Illinois State Senate wish
26 a speedy recovery to the above-mentioned citizens as well as
27 the others wounded in the recent barbaric attack; and be it
28 further
29 RESOLVED, That we express our collective outrage at the
30 encouragement, support, and praise given to such terrorists
31 and terror attacks; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That we call upon Palestinian Authority
2 Chairman, Yassar Arafat, to put an end to all such
3 encouragement, support, and praise for these terror attacks,
4 which emanate from areas under his direct jurisdiction; and
5 be it further
6 RESOLVED, That the Members of the Illinois State Senate
7 support the policy of the United States government in
8 resisting terrorism throughout the world, and in seeking
9 peace for Israel and its neighboring nations seeking a
10 permanent peace accord; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 delivered to the President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate,
13 the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and each
14 member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
