1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Joseph E. Thomas of Belleville, Illinois, who passed away
5 on September 24, 2001; and
6 WHEREAS, Joseph E. Thomas was born on January 1, 1936 in
7 East St. Louis, Illinois to Carroll and Gertrude Thomas; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was a retired maintenance foreman who
9 spent 38 years with Monsanto Chemical Company; after his
10 retirement, he worked at Midwest Laser and Engraving; in
11 addition, he was a veteran of the United States Army; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was a member of St. Matthew United
13 Methodist Church, the Gothic Lodge 852 AF & AM, the Scottish
14 Rite Bodies, and the Ainad Shrine, a Past Associate Grand
15 Guardian of the State of Illinois of the International Order
16 of Job's Daughters, a life member of the Parent Teacher
17 Association at Dewey School, and a member of the Monsanto
18 Foreman's Club; and
19 WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph Thomas will be deeply felt
20 by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Gwyneth
21 E. Thomas; his son, Dennis J. Thomas; his daughter, Elaine J.
22 (husband, Newlyn) Thomas-Horton; his sisters, Betty (husband,
23 Don) Graham, Jean (husband, Henry) Calbreath, and Yvonne
24 (husband, J.C.) McDaniel; his mother-in-law, Iva Prince; his
25 sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Velda and Tom Gerstenecker;
26 his nieces and nephews; his great-nieces and great-nephews;
27 and his great-great-niece; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
30 all who knew him, the death of Joseph E. Thomas of
31 Belleville, Illinois; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Joseph E. Thomas with our sincere
3 condolences.
