1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Dr. Frank J. Wall, Jr., who passed away on August 31,
5 2001; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Wall was born in 1908 and grew up with his
7 seven siblings in their South Shore neighborhood; he attended
8 St. Gabriel grammar school and St. Ignatius College Prep in
9 Chicago; and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Wall was married to the late Holly
11 Murphy, his childhood sweetheart; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Wall enrolled in law school at the
13 University of Chicago, but on the second day of classes he
14 dropped out and decided to follow in the footsteps of his
15 father and uncles in the medical profession; and
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Wall enrolled at the Chicago Medical School
17 in 1928 and did his internship in 1934 at Evangelical
18 Hospital, now known as Christ Hospital Medical Center in Oak
19 Lawn; he decided to specialize in family medicine not only
20 for its challenges but also because it seemed a sure fit to
21 his gentle and mild demeanor; and
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Wall practiced out of Evangelical Hospital
23 and his own office on the South Side, which he later moved to
24 Oak Lawn after the hospital relocated; and
25 WHEREAS, Dr. Wall served as president of Evangelical
26 Hospital's staff in the 1960's and worked as a doctor for the
27 Chicago Youth Organization and the Golden Gloves Boxing
28 organization; in 1965, his son-in-law, Dr. William Ruff,
29 joined him as a partner in his practice; and
30 WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Wall has delivered many

1 babies on the South Side of Chicago; he got to know many of
2 his patients well and watched as families grew, generation by
3 generation; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Wall retired in 1987 but continued
5 practicing medicine as a volunteer medical director for the
6 Rosary Hill Nursing Home; he enjoyed spending time with the
7 residents and staff even after his resignation from his
8 duties; and
9 WHEREAS, During his retirement, Dr. Wall enjoyed betting
10 on horses at Arlington Racecourse and spending time with his
11 extended family; and
12 WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Frank J. Wall, Jr. will be
13 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his
14 children, Jo Ann (husband, William J., M.D.) Ruff, Mary Helen
15 (husband, the late Laurence) Connelly, Betty Jane (husband,
16 James) O'Toole, Lawrence C. (wife, Kathy) Wall, Ginny
17 (husband, Mike) Raftery, Terrence M., D.D.S. (wife,
18 Marilouise) Wall, John "Murph" (wife, Caryl) Wall, and was
19 preceded in death by his son, Frank Wall; his 53
20 grandchildren; his 65 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Betty
21 Reilly, Anne (husband, Arch) Gott, and Geraldine Wall; and
22 the thousands of patients over the years who have grown to
23 love Dr. Wall for his kind and gentle nature in their times
24 of need; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
27 all who knew him, the death of Dr. Frank J. Wall, Jr. of
28 Palos Heights, Illinois; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to the family of Dr. Frank J. Wall, Jr. with our
31 sincere condolences.
