1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Melvina Thomas Augustus, who passed away on May 7, 2001;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Melvina Thomas Augustus was born on January 7,
7 1924 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Erma and Alexander Thomas;
8 she was married to Dave Augustus in 1946; and
9 WHEREAS, Melvina Thomas Augustus relocated to Chicago,
10 Illinois in the 1950s; she worked for many years at the
11 Orington Hotel in Evanston, Illinois, where she retired in
12 1978; and
13 WHEREAS, Melvina Thomas Augustus was a very special
14 person to many people; she was especially known for her great
15 down home cooking, her hearty laugh, her unique sense of
16 humor, and her open door policy; and
17 WHEREAS, The passing of Melvina Thomas Augustus will be
18 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially her
19 sons, David (wife, Linda), Steven (wife, Mary), Donald (wife,
20 Karen), and Anthony; her daughters, Cynthia and Demetrius;
21 her grandchildren, Yvonne (husband, Cornell), Daryl, Rhonda,
22 Rochelle, Vernell, Djuanyel, Demarlon, Michael, Nikki,
23 Steven, Vernon, Donnie, Jeremy, Keith, Jovan, Sean, Jim,
24 Sade, Neiko, Cashmere, and Rahem; her 14 great grandchildren;
25 her nieces; her nephews; her God-Child, Madeline Allen; her
26 life-long friends, Ethel Allen and Helen Smith; and her many
27 other friends and relatives; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
30 all who knew her, the death of Melvina Thomas Augustus of
31 Chicago, Illinois; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Melvina Thomas Augustus with our
3 sincere condolences.
