1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Rufus S. Holbrook, a founding and lifelong resident of
5 Park Ridge, Illinois, who passed away on March 22, 2001 at
6 the age of 103; and
7 WHEREAS, Rufus Holbrook was a veteran of World War I,
8 serving in the United States Army; he played the trumpet in
9 the Army band; he was a member of Park Ridge American Legion
10 Post 247 for more than seventy-five years, and played trumpet
11 in the drum and bugle corps at the American Legion; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook worked seventy-five years for
13 Hardigan and Burkitt Cadillac and Napleton Cadillac; he began
14 as a car washer, eventually became the new car sales manager,
15 and retired in 1984 as a claims supervisor; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook was one of the original members of
17 the volunteer police and fire departments during the 1930s
18 and 1940s; and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook received the Claude D. Pepper
20 Distinguished Award in Chicago for his service to the
21 community; in 1996 he received a proclamation from the city
22 of Park Ridge in honor of his 99th birthday; and
23 WHEREAS, The passing of Rufus Holbrook will be deeply
24 felt by his family and friends, and the people who drew on
25 his valued knowledge of history, particularly the history of
26 Park Ridge; he is survived by his sons, Stanley and Joseph;
27 his nine grandchildren; his thirteen great-grandchildren; and
28 his two great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
31 all his family and friends, the death of Rufus S. Holbrook;

1 and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Rufus S. Holbrook.
