1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Lennard Michael McNamara, who passed away on April 2,
5 2001; and
6 WHEREAS, Lennard Michael McNamara was born on February 3,
7 1951 in Kobe, Japan, to Alice McNamara; he was a graduate of
8 Lanphier High School in Springfield, Illinois; and
9 WHEREAS, Lennard McNamara served in the United States
10 Marine Corps from 1970 through 1973; he proudly represented
11 his country during his tour of duty in the Vietnam War;
12 during his service in the Marine Corps, Mr. McNamara was
13 awarded the National Defense Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal,
14 the Vietnam Service Medal, and the title of Rifle
15 Sharpshooter; and
16 WHEREAS, Lennard McNamara joined the Sangamon County
17 Sheriff's Department in 1982, where he served in the Uniform
18 Patrol Division; he was appointed to the Sangamon County
19 Tactical Response Unit in 1991, where he served as Perimeter
20 Team Leader until 1998; recently, he served as Assistant
21 Tactical Response Unit Commander, a position he has held
22 since 1998; during his career, Mr. McNamara was awarded three
23 Unit Citations and was voted as "Deputy of the Year" every
24 year for the past ten years; and
25 WHEREAS, Lennard McNamara was an active member of the
26 Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #55, a longtime member
27 of the sheriff's tactical team, and a member of the Blue
28 Knights; he was a strong supporter of the Animal Protective
29 League and the Animal Humane Society; he was a lover of
30 nature and also enjoyed sailing, hunting, and vacationing
31 with his family and friends; and

1 WHEREAS, The passing of Lennard McNamara will be deeply
2 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his mother,
3 Alice McNamara; his brothers, James and Leo McNamara; his
4 niece, Amanda McNamara; and his nephew, Conner McNamara; and
5 WHEREAS, In addition to his family, Lennard McNamara is
6 survived by his friends and colleagues, especially at the
7 Sangamon County Sheriff's Department where his presence will
8 be severely missed; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 all who knew him, the death of Lennard Michael McNamara of
12 Springfield, Illinois; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Lennard Michael McNamara with our
15 sincere condolences.
