1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 convey their sincere condolences to the family and friends of
4 Benjamin P. Alschuler of Aurora, Illinois, who recently
5 passed away; and
6 WHEREAS, Benjamin Alschuler was born in Aurora, Illinois,
7 on February 5, 1933; his parents were Jacob E. and Carolyn
8 Strauss Alschuler; he attended the West Aurora Schools,
9 graduating from West High in 1951; Mr. Alschuler was an
10 Honors graduate of the University of Virginia and was elected
11 to Phi Beta Kappa; he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the
12 University of Chicago Law School, and was admitted to the
13 Illinois Bar in 1960; and
14 WHEREAS, Benjamin Alschuler served as an officer in the
15 United States Navy from 1955 to 1957; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Alschuler joined the law firm of Alschuler,
17 Putnam, and McWethy in 1960; in 1996 he became a partner in
18 the Chicago firm of Wildman, Harrold, Allen, and Dixon; on
19 January 1, 2001, he joined Donald Simantz and Ronald Hem and
20 formed Alschuler, Simantz, and Hem in Aurora; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Alschuler was a member of the Kane County
22 Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the American
23 Bar Association, and the Illinois Workmen's Compensation
24 Lawyers Association; he was a leader in the formation of
25 Mental Health and Retardation Services, Inc.; he served as
26 Board President for the Family Counseling Service; he was a
27 member of the Board of Governors of Rush-Copley Medical
28 Center; he was a member of the Board of Directors of Aurora
29 College/University for nearly thirty years, serving as
30 Chairman of the Board from 1981 to 1986; and in 1968 Mr.
31 Alschuler was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Congress;

1 WHEREAS, Mr. Alschuler was an avid golfer and a longtime
2 member of the Aurora Country Club; and
3 WHEREAS, The passing of Benjamin P. Alschuler will be
4 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his
5 wife of 45 years, Anne; his daughter, Carolyn; his son, John
6 (wife, Dee); his sister, Rosalie (husband, Bernard)
7 Goldstein; his brother, George (wife, Maryann) Alschuler; his
8 uncle, Sam Alschuler; and his many nieces and nephews;
9 therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family and friends, the death of Benjamin P. Alschuler;
13 and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Benjamin P. Alschuler.
