1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Cynthia Louise Gates, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Cynthia Louise Gates was born in Middletown,
6 Ohio, on July 3, 1939; her parents were Robert and Emma
7 (Reese) Gates; and
8 WHEREAS, Cynthia Louise Gates was employed at Vail Middle
9 School where she worked with disabled children; she
10 previously worked at Creekview Elementary School, also
11 working with disabled children; she also worked at Sears for
12 twenty years, where she was an expert in the paint
13 department; and
14 WHEREAS, Ms. Gates was a faithful member of Bethel AME
15 Church, where she was a member of the senior choir and the
16 Gospel Five; she worked with the senior citizens and worked
17 on church activities and bus trips; she served as treasurer
18 of the union fellowship and headed the summer bible school
19 programs; she was involved in Sunday school, the Missionary
20 Society at both the local and conference levels, the trustee
21 helpers, and helped to keep the church decorated; and
22 WHEREAS, Cynthia Louise Gates was a charter member of the
23 Girls Assembly #13 of Middletown, Ohio; she was secretary of
24 the Mademoiselle Club; she was also involved with Habitat for
25 Humanity, Million Woman March, 2nd Ward Committee, Mid Fest,
26 and A.K. Labor Day; Ms. Gates also worked in community
27 organizations, leading to her meeting with Dr. Martin Luther
28 King, Jr. and receiving the NAACP Image award in 1995; and
29 WHEREAS, The passing of Cynthia Louise Gates will be
30 deeply felt by all who knew her, especially her loving
31 daughter, Shelley Dee Gates; her grandsons, Larry Reep Gates

1 and Lester Gates; her granddaughter, Summer Louisee Gates;
2 her great-great nephew, Derrick (wife, Poodie) Reed; her
3 sisters, Christell, Josephine, and Jacquline; her brothers,
4 Robert Gates, Jr., Paul Gates, James (wife, Pam) Gates, Tom
5 Dennis Gates, and David Gates; her stepmother, Mary Lee
6 Gates; her stepsister, Margaret Quinn McClain; her two aunts;
7 her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, her cousins,
8 and her many friends; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 all who knew her, the death of Cynthia Louise Gates; and be
12 it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of there resolution be
14 presented to the family of Cynthia Louise Gates.
