1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Anton A. Axotis, who passed away February 16, 2000; and
5 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis was born on September 3, 1926 in
6 Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and was married to Maria Axotis on
7 September 1, 1957; and
8 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis was the past president of Holy
9 Trinity Church in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and a past board
10 member of St. Demetrius Church in Waukegan, Illinois; and
11 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis proudly served in the United
12 States Army from 1945 to 1946; during this period he earned
13 the following medals: the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the
14 Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Philippine Independence
15 Ribbon, the Victory Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal; and
16 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis served for twenty years as a
17 State Service Officer for the Illinois Department of Veteran
18 Affairs, where he received an award for distinguished
19 service in furthering the aims and ideals of the Illinois
20 Veteran; and
21 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis was a fifty year member of the
22 American Legion, where he also served eight years as an
23 adjutant and six years as membership chairman; he was cited
24 for distinguished service to the American Legion in helping
25 to make the community aware of its programs and for service
26 to the community; and
27 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis was a life member of the
28 Disabled American Veterans, and was given the Commander's
29 Award for two consecutive years; he also served as Membership
30 Chairman and conducted the "Forget Me Not" Drive; and

1 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis was a life member and Commander
2 of the AmVets, where he served as membership chairman and
3 White Clover Drive Chairman; he was awarded the Certificate
4 of Merit and was named the Post AmVet of the year in 1996;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Anton A. Axotis was awarded the Certificate of
7 Appreciation from the Vietnam Veteran's Association for
8 "being a generous and committed friend whose kindness has
9 helped keep alive the memory of those who served in the
10 Vietnam War; he was also a life member of the V.F.W.; and
11 WHEREAS, The passing of Anton A. Axotis will be deeply
12 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving
13 wife of 43 years, Maria; and his children; Antonia (husband,
14 Gene) Beiriger, Carrie (husband, Neil) Codell, Dina (husband,
15 Michael) Rotolo, Alex Axotis, and Theodore Axotis; therefore,
16 be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 all who knew him, the death of Anton A. Axotis of Waukegan,
20 Illinois; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Anton A. Axotis.
