 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish  to say farewell to Representative Judy
 4    Erwin of the 11th District upon her retirement; and

 5        WHEREAS, First elected in 1992, and serving  five  terms,
 6    Representative  Erwin  served  as  Chair  of the House Higher
 7    Education Committee,  where  she  has  sponsored  and  passed
 8    several measures to increase access and affordability to post
 9    secondary education; and

10        WHEREAS,   Representative   Erwin   has   served  as  the
11    Vice-chair of the House  Committee  on  Tourism,  working  to
12    bring  additional  State  attention  to  the  State's fastest
13    growing industry; and

14        WHEREAS, Among her many accomplishments while serving  in
15    the  legislature, Representative Erwin has sponsored numerous
16    bills signed into law concerning health care reform measures,
17    environmental      protection,      increased      government
18    accountablility measures, education reform,  merit  selection
19    of judges, tougher handgun laws, and women's health concerns;
20    and

21        WHEREAS,  Representative  Erwin  has been recognized with
22    the Intellectual Freedom  Award  from  the  Illinois  Library
23    Association,  the Community Peacemaker of the Year Award from
24    the Peace Museum for her work in violence prevention, and the
25    Friends of the Parks Advocacy Award for her  contribution  in
26    founding   the  Illinois  General  Assembly's  Lake  Michigan
27    Working Group; in 1998, she was included on  Today's  Chicago
28    Woman's 100 Women Making a Difference list; and

29        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
30    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31    we congratulate Representative Judy Erwin on  her  retirement

 1    from  the House of Representatives, commend her on a job well
 2    done for the citizens of the 11th District and the  State  of
 3    Illinois,  and  recognize  that her gifts of intelligence and
 4    negotiation will be missed by her friends in the legislature;
 5    and be it further

 6        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 7    presented  to  Representative  Judy  Erwin  as a token of our
 8    respect and esteem with our best wishes in all of her  future
 9    endeavors.
