1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to say farewell to an esteemed
4 colleague, State Representative Anne Zickus of the 48th
5 District; and
6 WHEREAS, Representative Zickus has been an advocate for
7 senior citizens through her leadership, sensitivity and
8 commitment to the growing needs of Illinois seniors and their
9 families; she has fought for the restoration of critical
10 funding for individuals with disabilites; she sponsored
11 legislation to improve Chicago police and firefighters'
12 widows and retirees' pension benefits; she sponsored
13 15-20-Life, ending the revolving door of habitual criminals
14 returning to our streets; and she sponsored Attorney General
15 Jim Ryan's "Safe 2 Learn" package that improves the safety
16 and security of our schools and increases penalties against
17 violent criminals; and
18 WHEREAS, Representative Zickus has served in the Illinois
19 State Legislature with distinction for twelve years; for over
20 28 years she was a business owner in the Southwest suburbs;
21 she has held leadership positions with the South/Southwest
22 Association of Realtors and the Illinois Association of
23 Realtors and has earned the respect of her peers; she has
24 gained recognition as a dedicated public servant in her
25 positions on the Palos Hills City Council, the Palos Hills
26 Plan Commission, the Board of Directors of the Helping Hand
27 Rehabilitation Center in Countryside, the Board of Directors
28 of the Metropolitan Family Services-Southwest, the Moraine
29 Valley Community College Respiratory Care Advisory Committee,
30 as a Director of the Illinois State Crime Commission and as a
31 Member of the Executive Board of Women In Government; she
32 has also served her community by participating in many
33 organizations including local chambers of commerce and the

1 American Cancer Society; she has been appointed to the
2 position of Republican Committeeman of Palos Township; and
3 WHEREAS, She has brought to the General Assembly many
4 years of experience and understanding of the issues; she
5 knows firsthand what it is like to run a business, meet a
6 payroll, raise and educate children and care for elderly
7 parents; she has been ever-watchful of government policies
8 that threaten private property rights and the ability to
9 conduct business in the State of Illinois; she has served as
10 Vice-Spokesperson on the Commerce and Business Development
11 Committee, as a member of the Transportation & Motor Vehicles
12 Committee; Financial Institutions Committee; Personnel and
13 Pensions Committee; and is the Republican Leader of the
14 Registration & Regulation Committee; she has also been
15 appointed to the Legislative Audit Commission; and
16 WHEREAS, She has received the "Taxpayer's Friend of the
17 Year" award from the Greater South Suburban Taxpayers
18 Association; the coveted "Guardian of Small Business" award;
19 the "Voice of Employers" award from the Management
20 Association of Illinois for her strong commitment to creating
21 jobs and improving the economic climate in Illinois; and the
22 "George L. Patt Distinguished Service and Dedication Award"
23 from the South/Southwest Association of Realtors; and
24 WHEREAS, She has received the "Frederick Milton Thrasher
25 Award" for outstanding leadership in confronting the gang
26 problem of today; the "Legislator of the Year" award from the
27 Illinois State Crime Commission; the "Legislator of the Year"
28 award from the Northern Illinois Association of Fire
29 Protection Districts; the "Legislator of the Year Award" from
30 the Community Behavioral Health Care Association; the "Friend
31 of the Family" award for her outstanding pro-family record;
32 the Family Council "Friend of the Family" award for
33 leadership in protecting traditional family values; the

1 "Friend of Decency" award from the Citizens for Community
2 Values; the "Friend of Agriculture" award from both the Cook
3 and DuPage County Farm Bureaus; and the "Key to the City" and
4 the "Honorary Hickory Hero" award for her devotion and work
5 with the senior citizen community of the City of Hickory
6 Hills; and
7 WHEREAS, She has been married to her husband Chuck since
8 1958; they are the parents of two children, daughter Kathy
9 and son and daughter-in-law Dr. Charles and Candee Zickus,
10 and they are the grandparents of Matthew, Samantha, and
11 Charles IV; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate Representative Anne Zickus on her tireless
15 efforts to serve the people of the 48th District and the
16 State of Illinois and we wish her well in all of her future
17 endeavors; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Representative Anne Zickus, along with our
20 sincere regards.
