1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the House of
3 Representatives that Sarah Rowena Glatz recently celebrated
4 her 100th birthday on November 3, 2002; and
5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Glatz was born in Perryville, Missouri on
6 November 3, 1902 to Emanual and Philomene Brewer, the first
7 of nine children; and
8 WHEREAS, At age 13, she got a job at Famous in downtown
9 St. Louis in the housewares department; she worked there
10 until her marriage on April 18, 1922 to John Albert Glatz at
11 St. Joseph's Church in Granite City; they were the first
12 couple to be married there; and
13 WHEREAS, During her marriage, Mrs. Glatz became a great
14 seamstress; during the Depression, she would be given
15 clothing, which she would take apart and then remake into
16 clothes for her daughters; later, she made crocheted afghans;
17 at age 96, she still could make one in less than a week; and
18 WHEREAS, Her children are John Arthur Glatz and Joan
19 Maxine Calhoon; Mary Elaine Baker is deceased; she has 11
20 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren,
21 2 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren;
22 and
23 WHEREAS, She has been a member of St. Bernard's Parish
24 since 1949; she has resided at Bethalto Care Center in
25 Bethalto since 2000; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Sarah Rowena Glatz on the occasion of her
29 100th birthday; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
