1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Representative John O.
4 Jones on his service to the people of the 107th District; and
5 WHEREAS, Representative Jones was a member of the Bluford
6 Consolidated School Board for eight years and served as
7 President for four years; he has represented the 107th
8 District since 1995; he recently was elected to serve the
9 54th District in the Illinois Senate; and
10 WHEREAS, Representative Jones has always concentrated on
11 representing the common man and has been available and
12 accessible to his constituents; while not in session, he has
13 held regular office hours every month in seven towns in his
14 district; and
15 WHEREAS, He has made education and senior citizens'
16 issues a priority; he has worked for equitable school funding
17 and expanding the Circuit Breaker and Pharmaceutical
18 Assistance Program; he has assisted many local government
19 entities, including townships, villages, cities, counties,
20 school districts, fire districts, and water districts, by
21 providing funding through special appropriations to better
22 serve the people of the 107th District; he opposed layoffs
23 in post-secondary educational and vocational programs at
24 state prisons; and
25 WHEREAS, He worked tirelessly to ensure the passage of a
26 law, known as Empower Illinois, to revitalize the coal
27 industry and generate much-needed jobs by providing tax
28 incentives and low-interest loans for the construction of
29 clean-burning power plants near Illinois coal mines; and
30 WHEREAS, Among the awards received by Representative
31 Jones are the Industrial Appreciation Award, the Friend of

1 Agriculture Award, and the Guardianship of Small Business
2 Award; and
3 WHEREAS, He has served on several committees, including
4 Agriculture & Conservation; Appropriations - General Services
5 & Government Oversight (Vice - Spokesman); Elementary &
6 Secondary Education; Tourism (Spokesman); Transportation &
7 Motor Vehicles; and Veterans' Affairs; and
8 WHEREAS, Representative Jones and his wife, Mimi, live in
9 Mt. Vernon; he has two children, Natalie and Aaron; he served
10 four years in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged
11 in 1962; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate Representative John O. Jones on a job well
15 done and we wish him continued success in the Illinois
16 Senate; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Representative John O. Jones as an expression of
19 our respect and esteem.
