1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are honored to recognize notable achievements
4 in the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph Meisenbach and his wife Kathy were
6 named as the first recipients of the Catholic Charities'
7 "Spirit of Charity" award; and
8 WHEREAS, The Meisenbachs, long active in a variety of
9 area, Catholic and medical charities, received the award from
10 Bishop Joseph Imesch at a luncheon at the Catholic Charities
11 office at N. Schuyler Avenue in Kankakee; and
12 WHEREAS, Kathy Meisenbach was named to the Catholic
13 Charities advisory board in 1991 and was president in 1996;
14 Dr. Meisenbach is known for his efforts in coordinating
15 giving among physicians, contributing himself, asking for
16 donations, and then thanking donors; and
17 WHEREAS, The Meisenbachs recently celebrated their 30th
18 wedding anniversary; they were high school sweethearts in
19 Reddick and college sweethearts at the University of
20 Illinois; and
21 WHEREAS, In 1996, the Meisenbachs were named
22 Humanitarians of the Year by Provena St. Mary's Hospital; and
23 WHEREAS, Dr. Meisenbach became determined to be a
24 cardiologist after watching his grandfather suffer from
25 angina, a condition so severe that he had to take
26 nitroglycerin just to watch an exciting cowboy show on
27 television; when he finished medical school, he was offered a
28 job in Hawaii, but the Meisenbachs decided to come back to
29 Kankakee County; Dr. Meisenbach's reputation for care of the
30 area's indigent and elder population has been unselfish and
31 limitless; and

1 WHEREAS, Catholic Charities, a United Way charity, serves
2 people of all faiths; programs that Catholic Charities
3 sponsor include, Retired Senior Volunteers, which provides
4 help to many other activities, including Hospice, Meals on
5 Wheels, and the Red Cross, counseling on martial, parenting,
6 divorce, and other family issues, and maternity services,
7 including counseling, medical care and help with adoption,
8 coordination of adoption, and foster care; additional
9 services include, transitional housing for the homeless, a
10 Back to School fair to provide school supplies for needy
11 children, money management classes and help for the disabled
12 or senior citizens, a Senior Companion program that visits
13 adults, 60 and over, who cannot get out, and an Elder Abuse
14 and Neglect reporting station; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17 we congratulate Dr. Joseph Meisenbach and his wife Kathy on
18 being named as the first recipients of the Catholic
19 Charities' "Spirit of Charity" award; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to Dr. Joseph Meisenbach and Kathy Meisenbach as an
22 expression of our esteem.
