1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the State of
3 Illinois is pleased to recognize achievements in the lives of
4 citizens of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson Thompson is being honored by the
6 Rite of Passage into Elderhood by the Black United Fund of
7 Illinois on Sunday, November 10, 2002; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson was born and raised in Chicago; he
9 has lived and worked in Chicago on the south side between
10 35th and 49th Streets most of his life; he attended Frances
11 E. Willard Elementary School and DuSable High School and he
12 later returned to teach at both of these schools; he attended
13 Wilson Junior College and received his bachelor of education
14 at Chicago Teachers College, and his master of education from
15 Loyola University; he was a doctoral candidate at the
16 University of Chicago and received his Ph.D. from Union
17 Graduate School; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson was acting principal at Forestville
19 High School from 1963 to 1967; since 1966, he has taught at
20 Northeastern Illinois University's Center for Inner City
21 Studies; and
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson is the president of the Association
23 of African Historians, a member of the International Board of
24 the Association for the Study of Classical African
25 Civilizations, and a member of the Kemetic Institute; Dr.
26 Thompson has lectured extensively throughout the world on
27 African history and culture; he has published several
28 articles and essays over the years, the most recent in the
29 African World History Project: The Preliminary Challenge; he
30 is presently working on several historical surveys to be
31 published in the very near future; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Thompson is a much sought after consultant
2 on Middle Eastern affairs; he has traveled extensively
3 through Africa, the Caribbean, and Brazil since 1977; he
4 travels to Africa and Brazil each summer conducting study
5 tours that are specifically for people who are looking for
6 in-depth knowledge about African history and culture and are
7 not only an educational experience, but a spiritual one;
8 therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we commend Dr. Anderson Thompson on his achievements and
12 congratulate him on being honored by the Rite of Passage into
13 Elderhood; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Dr. Anderson Thompson.
