1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are proud to congratulate William H. "Skip"
4 Dempsey of Decatur on his retirement as business agent of
5 Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 65 on August 31, 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey has been a resident of Decatur for
7 the past 57 years, graduated from Lakeview High School in
8 Decatur, and attended Eastern Illinois University, Purdue
9 University, Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor,
10 Michigan, and Richland Community College; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey has served as president of Plumbers
12 & Pipefitters Local 65, of the Decatur Trades & Labor
13 Assembly, and of the Decatur Building & Construction Trades
14 Council; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey has served as chairman of East
16 Central Illinois Pipe Trades Health & Welfare, of the
17 Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 65 Pension Fund, of the 20th
18 Congressional District COPE, and of the Dislocated Workers
19 Program and has served as co-chairman of the Decatur Area
20 Labor Management Committee and of Education to Careers; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey served as an instructor for Purdue
22 University Plumbers & Pipefitters Training for 10 years and
23 as Secretary of the Macon/Dewitt Private Industry Council for
24 6 years; and
25 WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey has served the community as a
26 Democratic precinct committeeman, as a coach for Junior
27 League Football, and on behalf of the following
28 organizations: the Economic Development Steering Committee
29 for the City of Decatur, United Way of Decatur/Macon County
30 (board member), the YMCA and YWCA, the Progress Resource
31 Center, the Decatur Private Industry Council (chairman of the

1 Planning Committee), Decatur Summerstart (board member),
2 Decatur Advantage (Steering Committee), Communities in
3 Partnership (board member), the Business
4 Development-Community Investment Corporation of Decatur
5 (chairman), the Job Training Coordination Committee, the Good
6 Samaritan Inn, the Decatur Sports Foundation, and the
7 Campaign of Penny Severns for City Council; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey has been married to Carla
9 Patterson-Dempsey for 36 years, and they have 3 children,
10 Melissa, Shawn, and Patrick, and 5 grandchildren, Drake,
11 Jarrett, Justin, Blain, and Haley; therefore be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate William H. "Skip" Dempsey on the occasion of
15 his retirement on August 31, 2002 as business agent of
16 Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 65 and wish him all the best in
17 his further endeavors; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
19 Mr. William H. Dempsey as an expression of our esteem.
