1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Howard
4 Edward Montgomery of Chicago, who passed away July 5, 2002;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Brother" and "Monty
7 Holmes", Howard Montgomery was born July 5, 1950, in
8 Lexington, Mississippi, to Sandy Wade Montgomery and Lillie
9 Mae Webster Johnson; he was the oldest of seven children; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Montgomery confessed Christ as his personal
11 Savior early in life and joined the Fellowship M.B. Church in
12 Chicago, where he was baptized by the Reverend Clay Evans; he
13 attended and graduated from Yale Upper Grade Center in
14 Chicago; he continued his education at Simeon Vocational High
15 School in Chicago and graduated in the class of 1969; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Montgomery was employed by the United States
17 Postal Service, where he was a dedicated employee for 2 years
18 before he was drafted into the United States Army in 1970; he
19 served his country in the Vietnam War as a communications
20 specialist for 2 years; in 1972, he returned to Chicago and
21 rejoined the United States Postal Service as a faithful
22 employee for another sixteen years; and
23 WHEREAS, Mr. Montgomery was united in holy matrimony to
24 Delores Everett at the Pick-Congress Hotel in Chicago in a
25 double-wedding ceremony with Delores' sister, Vernadine Banks
26 and Rufus Robinson; Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery and their family
27 relocated to Three Rivers, Michigan, on February 4, 1989; and
28 WHEREAS, Mr. Montgomery will be deeply missed by all
29 those who knew him and loved him, especially his wife,
30 Delores; his children, Toniesa L. Fletcher, Crystal Everett,
31 and Bernadette Everett; his granddaughter, Kierra Fletcher

1 (Santana); his mother, Lilly Mae Johnson; his father, Sandy
2 W. Montgomery; his sisters, Delores Jett and Lynette Johnson;
3 his brothers, Leonard Johnson, Zelworth Webster, Sr., Leo D.
4 Webster, Sr., Eddie V. Billingsley, Jr., and Curtis Johnson;
5 his sisters-in-law, Laucey, Sharon, Shelia, Jean, Electa,
6 Mary, and Vernadine; his brother-in-law, Royal; and a host of
7 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and
8 friends; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
12 Howard Edward Montgomery; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Howard Edward Montgomery with our
15 sincere condolences.
