1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincerest condolences
4 to the family and friends of Barbara Krell, who passed away
5 on June 26, 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, Barbara Krell was known to many as "Mrs. Hyde
7 Park" for her 40 years of involvement and activism in the
8 community; she was a leader in Hyde Park schools and
9 religious institutions for many years; and
10 WHEREAS, Born in India to missionary parents, Barbara
11 Krell was raised in California and Arizona, where she
12 graduated from Arizona State College; she moved to Hyde Park
13 in 1961 after marrying her husband, Eugene; and
14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Krell served as president of the PTA board
15 for Murray Language Academy and the Kenwood Academy PTSA; she
16 served as president of the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community
17 Conference, was an organizer and chairwoman of the
18 Recreational Alliance, served as secretary and treasurer of
19 the Hyde Park and Kenwood Interfaith Council, and served as a
20 moderator of the Hyde Park Union Church; for 20 years,
21 Barbara served as secretary for the United Church of Hyde
22 Park and the Methodist Foundation, retiring in 1997; and
23 WHEREAS, Barbara Krell's commitment to social justice and
24 a strong safety net for the disadvantaged infused her very
25 being; and
26 WHEREAS, Barbara's dedication did not go unrecognized;
27 she was the first recipient of the "Good Neighbor of the Year
28 Award" from the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club; in addition, she
29 was the recipient of the "Community Youth Advocate Award"
30 presented by the Blue Gargoyle and the recipient of the
31 "Outstanding Volunteer Award" presented by Matthew House; as

1 well, the Hyde Park and Kenwood Interfaith Council
2 established the "Barbara and Eugene Krell Community Service
3 Award" and named her the first recipient; and
4 WHEREAS, The passing of Barbara Krell will be deeply felt
5 by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Gene;
6 her children, Craig Krell, June Krell, and Ruth Wernis; and
7 her grandchildren, Kevin, Rebecca, Scott, and Andrew;
8 therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we mourn, along with all who knew her, the death of Barbara
12 Krell; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Barbara Krell with our deepest
15 sympathies.
