1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express our sincerest condolences to
4 the family and friends of Nina Mahone Goodwin, who passed
5 away in May 2002; and
6 WHEREAS, Nina Mahone Goodwin was born on July 10 in
7 Talbot County, Georgia; she was the only child of Albina
8 Mahone and Jacob Peters; she was raised by her grandmother
9 and her aunt; and
10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Goodwin graduated from Spencer High School
11 in Columbus, Georgia, and in 1944, left the South to make her
12 new home in Chicago; in 1946, she married her childhood
13 sweetheart, Jim Goodwin; from their union, Yvonne and Norman
14 were born; and
15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Goodwin joined Vernon Baptist Church in the
16 1950s; a devoted member, she shared in myriad clubs and
17 activities; in addition, she was a March of Dimes mother and
18 was involved in her block club; she retired from the Chicago
19 Public School System in the 1970s; and
20 WHEREAS, Nina Goodwin will be remembered for her
21 attentive ear and benevolent spirit, as she frequently helped
22 those who were sick or simply needed a friend; she loved to
23 shop and spend her free time walking the city blocks of the
24 Loop in downtown Chicago; and
25 WHEREAS, The passing of Nina Mahone Goodwin will be
26 deeply felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her
27 husband, Jim; her daughter, Yvonne (Joseph, Jr.); her son,
28 Norman (Debra); her grandchildren, Natalie, Joseph III,
29 Megan, and Jarred; and a host of cousins; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we mourn, along with all who knew and loved her, the death of
2 Nina Mahone Goodwin of Chicago; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Nina Mahone Goodwin with our
5 sincerest condolences.
