1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Every year, the City of Chicago honors
3 outstanding older persons during the Chicago Senior Citizens
4 Hall of Fame recognition ceremony; in keeping with a
5 forty-year tradition, Hall of Fame inductees are selected for
6 their significant professional and social contributions to
7 the city as members of a business, religious, community, or
8 educational organization; and
9 WHEREAS, On May 21, 2002 Mary M. Staniec will be inducted
10 into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame at a formal ceremony at
11 the Chicago Cultural Center for her more than 25 years of
12 civic and community service to the residents of Cook County,
13 the State of Illinois, and the United States of America; and
14 WHEREAS, A graduate of Chicago State University, Mrs.
15 Staniec has brought to her work a diligence and a concern for
16 the State of Illinois which has earned her personal success
17 as well as the admiration of others; and
18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Staniec has long been, and remains, active
19 in her northwest side neighborhood; she is founder,
20 organizer, and president of the Northwest Action Council,
21 Inc., which concerns itself with social, civic, health, and
22 economic issues in the community; she was also founder,
23 organizer, and president of the 16th Legislative District
24 Citizens Committee for the Equal Rights Amendment; and
25 WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Staniec has been active in
26 AFSCME Local 2912, where she served as Assistant Chief
27 Steward for two years and then as Executive Vice-President;
28 she has also been long active in the 41st Ward Regular
29 Democratic Organization, where since 1992 she has filled the
30 title of 41st Ward Committeewoman; and
31 WHEREAS, Mary Staniec's many awards and commendations

1 include the "Woman of the Year Award" in 1975 presented by
2 Lerner Times Newspaper, the "Miss Social Security Award" from
3 the United States Government, and the "Unsung Heroine" Cook
4 County Women's Issues Committee award; she has listings in
5 the "World Who's Who of Women", the "Directory of
6 Distinguished Americans", "Foremost Women of the 20th
7 Century" and "Who's Who of Human Service Professionals"; in
8 addition, in June, 2001, New Hampshire Avenue in Chicago was
9 renamed, "Honorary Mary Staniec Way" in honor of Mrs.
10 Staniec's continual dedication and contribution to the
11 residents of Chicago; and
12 WHEREAS, We are pleased to extend our congratulations to
13 Mary Staniec of Chicago on the occasion of her induction into
14 the Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, an honor which she
15 richly deserves; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18 we congratulate Mary Staniec on her induction into the
19 Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to Mary Staniec as an expression of our esteem.
