1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express our sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of Donald C. Sweeney, who recently
5 passed away; and
6 WHEREAS, Donald Sweeney was a 1950 graduate of St. George
7 High School in Evanston; he served in the United States
8 Marine Corps from 1953 through 1956, in San Diego and Japan;
9 he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps Reserves in
10 1961; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Sweeney was a 1961 graduate of DeVry
12 Technical Institute; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Sweeney worked for the Illinois Central
14 Railroad for 35 years; starting as a lineman, Mr. Sweeney
15 became an expert on oatenary systems for electrified
16 railways; he retired from Metra, which had taken over the
17 railroad; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Sweeney was a devoted member of St.
19 Gertrude's Parish, where he served as a eucharistic minister;
20 he helped establish the Committee on Community Life and the
21 Care for Real collections for the poor, and frequently helped
22 light the Easter fire at Holy Saturday mass; and
23 WHEREAS, Mr. Sweeney was the typical long-suffering
24 Chicago sports fan; and
25 WHEREAS, Donald Sweeney married Jean Mann in 1961; they
26 recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary; and
27 WHEREAS, The passing of Donald Sweeney will be deeply
28 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife,
29 Jean; his children, Theresa (Bill) Resch, John, Stephen,
30 Anne, and Cecilia; his grandchildren, Madeleine and Michael

1 Resch; his sister, Dorothy Sweeney; and his brother Ed
2 (Elaine); therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Donald C.
6 Sweeney of Chicago; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to the family of Donald C. Sweeney with our sincere
9 condolences.
