1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives offer our sincere congratulations to W.
4 Clement Stone upon his 100th Birthday; and
5 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone was born in Chicago on May 4,
6 1902 to Louis and Anna Stone; and
7 WHEREAS, At the age of twenty, W. Clement Stone, set up
8 his own insurance agency in Chicago; and
9 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone employed about a thousand
10 agents throughout much of the country by 1930; and
11 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone married his high school
12 sweetheart on June 16, 1923; and
13 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone has three children, twelve
14 grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren; and
15 WHEREAS, Between 1939 and 1954, W. Clement Stone,
16 acquired the companies and effected the mergers to build
17 Combined Insurance Company of America; and
18 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone collaborated with Napoleon Hill
19 to write "Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude" (1960);
20 and
21 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone wrote "The Success System That
22 Never Fails" (1962), and also co-authored "The Other Side of
23 the Mind" (1964) with Norma Lee Browning; and
24 WHEREAS, In 1979, the W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone
25 Foundation established the "Endow a Dream Award" to honor
26 persons who employ PMA principles to overcome adversity and
27 contribute to the betterment of humanity; and
28 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone was nominated for the 1981
29 Nobel Peace Prize by several international organizations; and

1 WHEREAS, Over the years W. Clement Stone has been honored
2 by many organizations; and
3 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone holds eighteen honorary
4 Doctorate degrees; and
5 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone is a member of the National
6 Board of Boys and Girls Clubs of America and serves on the
7 executive committee of the International Federation of
8 Keystone Youth Organizations; and
9 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone is the Vice-Chairman of the
10 National VOLUNTEER Center, and he serves on the National
11 board of the Robert Schuller Ministries; and
12 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone is the Chairman Emeritus of the
13 Aon Corporation; and
14 WHEREAS, W. Clement Stone's achievements are a source of
15 inspiration to the entire community and State; therefore, be
16 it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we do hereby offer our congratulations on the life
20 achievements of W. Clement Stone on his 100th birthday; and
21 be it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to W. Clement Stone.
