1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The American Jewish Committee has worked since
3 1906 to advance religious, ethnic and racial understanding
4 worldwide, combating discrimination, promoting human rights
5 and advocating for public policy positions deeply rooted in
6 American democratic values; and
7 WHEREAS, The American Jewish Committee bestows this
8 year's Cultural Achievement Award on Harriet Meyer for her
9 work as President of the Ounce of Prevention Fund and as the
10 brains behind the model Educare Center in Chicago; and
11 WHEREAS, Harriet Meyer's extensive experience and
12 accomplishments will be duly recognized by the American
13 Jewish Committee at the awards ceremony on April 22, 2002;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, We join in honoring the essential Harriet, a
16 longtime Hyde Parker who is loving wife to Rick and devoted
17 mother to Nikki and Claudia; Harriet, the avid art collector
18 who speaks French fluently and whose compassion is matched
19 only by her sense of humor; Harriet whose forceful voice
20 calls attention to the importance of every child's earliest
21 years; Harriet whose passion for the proposition that it is
22 caring - and cost effective - to provide early learning,
23 healthy child development and quality child care has had a
24 major impact on this state's public policies; now, therefore
25 be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate the American Jewish Committee on its choice
29 of Harriet Meyer as the recipient of the 2002 Cultural
30 Achievement Award; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That, with a tip of our collective hat, we

1 congratulate Harriet on her award and thank her for her work
2 as a tireless champion for children, known throughout
3 Illinois for her generosity in giving and her generosity of
4 spirit; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this preamble and
6 resolution be presented to Harriet Meyer and to the American
7 Jewish Committee.
