1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The House has learned with great sorrow of the
3 death of Chicago Police Officer Donald Joseph Marquez on
4 March 18, 2002, who gave his life in the line of duty; and
5 WHEREAS, Officer Marquez was a 20-year veteran of the
6 Chicago Police Department, having joined the force February
7 1, 1982, and had served in several special units during his
8 career, including the 10th District Tactical Team (known as
9 the Wild Bunch), the 18th District Special Unit, and the
10 Special Attached Services Unit; and
11 WHEREAS, His professional skill and dedication were
12 evident in the respect he received from his colleagues and
13 from the public, as Officer Marquez earned numerous
14 commendations and awards during his years of public service;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, A native of the Back of the Yards neighborhood
17 of Chicago, Officer Marquez was born April 10, 1954, to
18 Daniel and Mary Marquez and graduated from Libbey Grammar
19 School in 1968 and Kelly High School in 1972; and
20 WHEREAS, Married since 1972, Officer Marquez and his wife
21 Maria shared the joys and challenges of raising a loving
22 family that includes daughters Maria, Carla, and Alana and
23 son Donald, Jr., known as his father's pride and joy; and
24 WHEREAS, Officer Marquez had just entered a new phase of
25 his life, because his daughter Maria and her husband Anthony
26 Trinidad presented him with his grandson Anthony Santino
27 Trinidad on March 3, 2002; and
28 WHEREAS, Officer Marquez will also be sorely missed by
29 his siblings, who include brothers David, Dan, Jr., and Dean
30 and sisters Diana Jobe and Donna Isunza; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we express our profound sorrow upon the death of Officer
4 Donald Joseph Marquez in the line of duty, commending his
5 career of public service and his ultimate sacrifice to the
6 citizens of Chicago and the State of Illinois, and that we
7 convey our sincere sympathy to the family and friends who
8 will long cherish the memory of Officer Marquez; and be it
9 further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Officer Marquez.
