1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Our nation has experienced a revival of
3 patriotism since the catastrophic events of September 11,
4 2001; and
5 WHEREAS, Television and photographic images have depicted
6 countless Americans expressing their love of their country
7 through the proud display of the flag of the United States;
8 and
9 WHEREAS, The media's portrayal of this honest emotion is
10 in sharp contrast to the political correctness the media have
11 long aided and abetted, a political correctness that
12 relegated the patriotic display of the American flag to the
13 category of an insensitive, offensive activity; and
14 WHEREAS, That notion perhaps can be traced to the
15 traumatic college protests and demonstrations of the Vietnam
16 era when posters proclaimed that nothing is worth dying for,
17 and to foreign enemies who have delighted in trampling and
18 burning the American flag; and
19 WHEREAS, Such anti-American sentiments and ugly scenes
20 convey the values that our Founding Fathers would find most
21 offensive and that our children may accept as the norm if we
22 do not teach them otherwise by our example; and
23 WHEREAS, The proud and unencumbered expression of
24 patriotism is one of the hallmarks of American democracy; and
25 WHEREAS, The citizens of Illinois expect their State
26 government to reflect and encourage their deep love for the
27 star-spangled banner; and
28 WHEREAS, The use of State funds by anyone who would
29 prevent others from reverently displaying the red, white, and
30 blue offends the sensibilities of all Illinoisans; therefore,

2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4 we strongly insist that no State funds, from whatever source
5 derived, be transferred for any purpose to any individual or
6 other entity that prohibits the patriotic display of the flag
7 of the United States in public places or areas or that may in
8 turn transfer those funds to another individual or entity
9 that prohibits such a display of the flag of the United
10 States.
