1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the organizers
3 of the Clinton County Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the
4 American Cancer Society, received two prestigious awards
5 during a recent Relay University held in Chicago; and
6 WHEREAS, Clinton County Relay for Life, which was held at
7 Central High School in Breese, placed second in per capita
8 funds raised in groups with populations from 35,000 to 39,999
9 and also received the Rookie of the Year Award; the Clinton
10 County events raised $225,000 or $5.63 per resident of the
11 county; and
12 WHEREAS, A variety of activities are planned at each
13 Relay to raise money to fight cancer, but the theme is the
14 actual relay; Clinton County's first relay produced 108 teams
15 of 10 to 12 members each; each team commits one member to
16 walking the track during the entire event; and
17 WHEREAS, The Opening lap at each relay is traditionally
18 known as the Survivor's Lap, which is walked by cancer
19 survivors; organizers of the Clinton County Relay for Life
20 initially planned for 100 survivors but nearly 200 survivors
21 actually participated; in addition, over 600 luminaries, a
22 paper bag with a candle and the name of a cancer victim, were
23 purchased; and
24 WHEREAS, Other events at Clinton County's first Relay for
25 Life included an ugly baby contest, a talent contest, a
26 celebrity-look-alike contest and karaoke; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we congratulate the organizers and participants of the first
30 Clinton County Relay for Life on being honored with the
31 Rookie of the Year Award and placing second in the per capita

2 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
3 presented to the organizers of the Clinton County Relay for
4 Life as an expression of our esteem.
