1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Falun Gong, which is also known as Falun Dafa,
3 is a discipline of personal beliefs that incorporates
4 exercise, meditation, and principles based on truthfulness,
5 compassion, and forbearance; its millions of practitioners
6 work to attain inner peace, good health, and better skills to
7 deal with stress and conflict in life; and
8 WHEREAS, Over the past several years, authorities in the
9 People's Republic of China have taken strong and brutal
10 actions against practitioners of Falun Gong; reports indicate
11 that tens of thousands of people have been tortured and sent
12 to labor camps, and property owned by those who follow this
13 discipline has been destroyed or confiscated; the aggressive
14 actions taken by the state reflect a systematic commitment to
15 eliminate Falun Gong and those who pursue it; and
16 WHEREAS, The persecution of practitioners of Falun Gong
17 is in apparent violation of the People's Republic of China's
18 own constitution and a flagrant violation of standards of
19 human rights recognized by the United Nations and most
20 governments of the world; and
21 WHEREAS, Citizens of Illinois who practice Falun Gong and
22 those who understand this discipline cannot fathom the
23 reaction of the Chinese authorities; indeed, those who value
24 human rights seek an increase of efforts to urge the People's
25 Republic of China to halt this persecution; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we urge the United States Secretary of State to increase
29 efforts to urge the People's Republic of China to recognize
30 and protect the human rights of its citizens and halt the
31 persecution against practitioners of Falun Gong; and be it
32 further

1 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to
2 the United States Secretary of State, the President of the
3 United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House
4 of Representatives, and the members of the Illinois
5 congressional delegation.
