1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize significant
4 milestones in the history of businesses in the State of
5 Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, Consumers Illinois Water Company ("Consumers")
7 began as the Danville Water Company in 1883, changing its
8 name to Inter-State Water Company in 1913; the Company was
9 purchased by Consumers Water Company in 1986 and became
10 Consumers Illinois Water Company in 1995; Philadelphia
11 Suburban Water Corporation then purchased Consumers Water
12 Company in 1999; thus Consumers Illinois Water Company is a
13 wholly owned subsidiary of Philadelphia Suburban Corporation;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, Through the years, the Company has been a leader
16 in the water treatment and supply field; the Company was one
17 of the first downstate water suppliers to filter a surface
18 water supply as well as one of the first to fluoridate the
19 water supply; the Company has a state-of-the-art treatment
20 facility and was the co-founder of the Lake Vermilion Water
21 Quality Coalition, a very successful watershed protection
22 group; and
23 WHEREAS, Consumers has made significant investment in the
24 Danville area since purchasing the Company in 1986; to date,
25 more than $40 million has been invested in the system; in
26 1991, Consumers doubled the impoundment of Lake Vermilion,
27 making improvements at the Lake Vermilion Dam and raising the
28 water level in the lake by five feet; this improvement will
29 provide for an adequate water supply well into the future;
30 the water plant was built in 1990-1992, coming on line in
31 February 1992 and offers protection from flooding; an
32 additional water clarifier was added to the existing facility

1 in 1995 to keep pace with ever more stringent drinking water
2 regulations; in 2000, a very significant addition was made to
3 the treatment facility, with the first ion exchange nitrate
4 removal plant built in the State of Illinois for a surface
5 water treatment plant; this addition will insure compliance
6 with drinking water standards for nitrate; and
7 WHEREAS, Throughout the fifteen years of ownership,
8 Consumers has also invested millions of dollars in the water
9 distribution system, replacing undersized and old water mains
10 and making numerous other system improvements; the company
11 works closely with the City of Danville and the Danville Area
12 Economic Development Corporation to retain current businesses
13 and attract new ones while improving the infrastructure of a
14 water system that is more than 118 years old; therefore be it
15 RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,
17 that we congratulate Consumers Illinois Water Company on its
18 fifteen years of doing business in Danville and continuing an
19 enterprise that is 118 years old; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be
21 delivered to the Chief Executive Officer of Consumers
22 Illinois Water Company as an expression of our esteem.
