 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the history of performance theater in the State of  Illinois;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS,   This   year,   Victory   Gardens  Theater  was
 7    recognized with a Tony Award, the top theatrical honor in the
 8    nation; and

 9        WHEREAS, The Regional Theater Tony Award is  based  on  a
10    recommendation  by  the  American Theater Critics Association
11    and  given  to  a  theater  company  that  has  displayed   a
12    continuous  level of artistic achievement contributing to the
13    growth of theater nationally; and

14        WHEREAS,  The  Victory  Gardens  Theater  has   showcased
15    challenging  productions, including diverse new works and the
16    works of rising writers for more than 25 years; and

17        WHEREAS, Victory Gardens Theater has produced  more  than
18    120  world  premieres,  many of them by writers of its twelve
19    member ensemble; it is this unusual and  valuable  commitment
20    to  new  work  that  earned them this year's Tony Award for a
21    regional theater that has shown a record of excellence in the
22    Chicago community and has had a significant impact on theater
23    nationally; therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
25    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26    we  congratulate  the  Victory Gardens Theater on receiving a
27    2001 Tony Award for excellence in regional theater; and be it
28    further

29        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
30    presented to the members of the Victory Gardens Theater as an
31    expression of our esteem.
