1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Rosemary S.
6 Argus is retiring from her duties as Commissioner of the Mt.
7 Prospect Park District; and
8 WHEREAS, Rosemary Argus has served the residents of Mt.
9 Prospect as its Commissioner since September 1974; her tenure
10 exceeds that of any other Commissioner in the history of the
11 District; and
12 WHEREAS, During her tenure, Rosemary Argus was
13 instrumental in the acquisition, development, and performance
14 of Friendship Park Conservatory, Big Surf Wave Pool, and
15 RecPlex, the construction of the Greenhouse at Friendship
16 Park Conservatory, the purchase of the "Pop Shop", now known
17 as Studio in the Park, the recent renovation of Countryside,
18 Owen, and Frost parks, the construction of the Veterans
19 Memorial Bandshell, the purchase and renovation of Trade
20 Services, now known as Central Community Center, and the
21 proposed reconstruction of Meadows Pool; and
22 WHEREAS, In addition, Rosemary Argus participated in the
23 pursuit of park land resulting in the development of
24 Einstein, Gregory, Sunset, Busse, and Hill Street parks and
25 the use of United Airlines property; she also played a major
26 role in the establishment of intergovernmental facility use
27 agreements with School District 59, most notably Friendship
28 School; she also witnessed the finalization of the Melas Park
29 Cooperative Agreement and the initial stage of its
30 development and the formalization of the Parks Foundation;
31 she signed the lease for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation
32 District of Greater Chicago O'Hare Cup Site and the Majewski

1 Metro Athletic Complex; and
2 WHEREAS, Under Rosemary Argus's leadership, Mt. Prospect
3 Park District became the recipient of the Certificate of
4 Excellence in Financial Planning; and
5 WHEREAS, Rosemary Argus has held all of the offices on
6 the Board of Commissioner, including serving as President
7 from May 1987 to April 1993; in addition she has served or
8 chaired all of the Board committees; and
9 WHEREAS, Rosemary Argus has represented the residents of
10 the Mt. Prospect Park District with great dedication and
11 commitment during her tenure; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate Rosemary S. Argus on her retirement from a
15 near thirty-year career of service as Commissioner of the Mt.
16 Prospect Park District and we wish her well in all of her
17 future endeavors; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Rosemary S. Argus as an expression of our
20 esteem.
