1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor the veterans from the
4 State of Illinois who serviced during World War II, the
5 Korean Conflict, the Vietnam Confict, and the Persian Gulf
6 War; and
7 WHEREAS, On May 28, 2001, the town of Brownstown,
8 Illinois is celebrating its Sixth Annual Memorial Day Service
9 in honor of the town's veterans; and
10 WHEREAS, After the previous year's Memorial Day service,
11 VFW Post 9770 decided to create a monument for all foreign
12 war veterans, including those fortunate enough to return to
13 American soil; and
14 WHEREAS, As a result of donations and fundraisers, a
15 black granite memorial that measures eight feet high and
16 sixteen feet long and holds more than 600 names from World
17 War II to Desert Storm, proudly rests in the Central Park of
18 Brownstown; and
19 WHEREAS, A lasting memorial requires a memorable
20 dedication, which is happening at the Sixth Annual Memorial
21 Day Service; the service will include songs, a band
22 performance, a seven-gun salute, a special echo performance
23 of Taps with two bugle players, a planned low-level jet
24 flyby, and an address by John W. Johnston, the director of
25 the Veterans' Affairs Department in Illinois; and
26 WHEREAS, The Brownstown Memorial and Memorial service
27 serves as the ultimate dedication to the veterans of
28 Brownstown, Illinois who have sacrificed or risked their
29 lives for the honor of their town, State, and country;
30 therefore, be it
31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we honor the veterans of Brownstown, Illinois for their
3 service and dedication in times of war to their town, State,
4 and country; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the town of Brownstown, Illinois to honor its
7 veterans.
