1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of Arthur L. "Roy" Deacon, who passed
5 away on March 29, 2001; and
6 WHEREAS, Arthur L. Roy was born on July 1, 1925 in
7 Winchester, Illinois to Frank and Ethel Johnson Deacon; he
8 completed his primary and secondary education at the
9 Beardstown schools; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Deacon served during World War II in the
11 United States Navy as a Second Mate on numerous ships that
12 included the USS Housatonic, the NTS Great Lakes Illinois,
13 the USS Narrier, the USS Chickadee, the USS Quail, and the
14 USS Pochard; during his service with the United States Navy,
15 he was the recipient of several medals and commendations,
16 including an American Area Ribbon, the
17 European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific
18 Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and a Good Conduct
19 Ribbon; he was also a life member of the Guthrie-Pierce VFW
20 Post 1239 in Beardstown; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Deacon retired in 1983 after 23 years of
22 service with International Harvester in Canton; he had a
23 great love for the game of baseball, and this passion
24 continued as he coached and managed Little League and Pony
25 League baseball teams in Beardstown; Mr. Deacon was also an
26 avid reader, and enjoyed writing poems and songs; and
27 WHEREAS, The passing of Arthur L Deacon will be deeply
28 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 56
29 years, Erma; his sons, Danny Deacon, Rick (wife, Cynthia)
30 Deacon, and Robin (wife, Lori) Deacon; his daughters, Sharon
31 (husband, Allen) Schaeffer and Linda (husband, Michael)
32 Prewitt; his sister, Mary (husband, Dick) Logsdon; his

1 grandchildren, Penny Smith, Laura Seaman, Jonathan Deacon,
2 Richard Deacon, Jenny Deacon, Daniel Deacon, Amy Deacon, Ryan
3 Deacon, Aron Deacon, Brandon Deacon, Jeremy Deacon, Jeanette
4 Prewitt, Christopher Prewitt, and Rachel Deacon; his
5 great-grandchildren, Kynli and Cooper Smith, and Sarah and
6 Natalie Seaman; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Arthur L.
10 Deacon of Beardstown, Illinois; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Arthur L. Deacon with our sincere
13 condolences.
