1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Frederick
6 "Augie" Pehrkon is retiring on April 30, 2001 from 23 years
7 of service as a Trustee of Crete Township; and
8 WHEREAS, Frederick August Carl Pehrkon was born in 1917
9 in Crete, Illinois to Fritz and Lizzie Pehrkon; his parents
10 owned the Blacksmith Shop on Main Street now known as Quality
11 Welding; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Pehrkon attended Crete Elementary, Bloom
13 High School, Crete High School, and graduated from Peotone
14 High School, where he was a star basketball player; after
15 graduation, Mr. Pehrkon was drafted in the United States Army
16 in June of 1941 and served until 1945; and
17 WHEREAS, In November 1942, Frederick Pehrkon married
18 Dorothy Duensing; after his service in the Army was
19 completed, he returned to Crete and began working at Steger
20 Furniture Manufacturing Co., where he was later appointed as
21 Plant Superintendent; and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Pehrkon was appointed to the Crete Township
23 Fire Protection District Board, where he served for thirteen
24 years, many as its President; in 1978, he was appointed to
25 the Crete Township Board to fill the unexpired term of Sandy
26 Nielsen, and has served ever since; and
27 WHEREAS, Mr. Pehrkon has been an active member of the
28 Local Amvet Post since its establishment, holding offices
29 from Commander to Fish Fry Chairman; he is also a member of
30 Trinity Lutheran Church; and

1 WHEREAS, After his retirement, Frederick Pehrkon worked
2 with Ann Bakker in the mentoring program at Crete Elementary
3 School; he also found time to care for and stay with Wendell
4 Regnier, John Munz, Pete Piepenbrink, Vic Behrens, and John
5 Lazaros when they needed his assistance; and
6 WHEREAS, Frederick Pehrkon is looking forward to spending
7 his retirement with his family who include his wife, Dorothy;
8 his daughters, Anne Pehrkon and Joan (husband, Larry)
9 Wieggel; and his grandson, Paul Lawrence Wieggel; therefore,
10 be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we congratulate Frederick Pehrkon on his retirement from 23
14 years of service as a Trustee of Crete Township, and we wish
15 him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Frederick Pehrkon as an expression of our
18 esteem.
