1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the
3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage
4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for
5 the people of the State of Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Mr. and Mrs.
7 George Murphy of Springfield, Illinois, recently celebrated
8 the fifty-fifth anniversary of their marriage; and
9 WHEREAS, George Murphy and Mary Virginia Skube were
10 united in holy matrimony on March 2, 1946, at Sacred Heart
11 Church in Springfield by the Reverend John Brockmeier; George
12 Murphy is a veteran of World War II, where he served in both
13 the European and Pacific Theaters; he is retired from the
14 United States Postal Service; Mary Virginia Murphy is
15 homemaker; and
16 WHEREAS, They are the loving parents of George (wife,
17 Margaret), Trish Jackson, Diane (husband, Tom) Cavanagh, and
18 the late Sharon Noonan (husband, Matt); the proud
19 grandparents of twelve wonderful grandchildren; and the
20 doting great-grandparents of five great-grandchildren; and
21 WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its
22 highest plateaus when a couple such as George and Mary
23 Virginia celebrate such a special wedding anniversary; and
24 WHEREAS, George and Mary Virginia stand as examples of
25 the best of our society, and their love and devotion to each
26 other and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to
27 all that hard work, dedication, and love can make a
28 difference in today's world; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31 we congratulate George and Mary Virginia Murphy on the

1 occasion of their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary; that we
2 commend them for achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed
3 with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and
4 rich in friendships; and that we wish them happiness and good
5 health in the future; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to them as an expression of our respect and esteem.
