1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize acts of outstanding
4 community service by a citizen of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Steve Geroff
6 of Granite City, Illinois, has been named as one of the
7 State's top student volunteers in the sixth annual Prudential
8 Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program in
9 partnership with the National Association of Secondary School
10 Principals that recognizes young people for outstanding
11 community service; and
12 WHEREAS, Steve Geroff is a senior at Granite City High
13 School in Granite City, Illinois; he is the son of proud
14 parents, Robert and Rosemary Geroff; and
15 WHEREAS, As part of the Moose Youth Awareness Program,
16 Steve Geroff created a program entitled "Kid's Talk", a
17 presentation given to groups of four to nine year old
18 children in the Granite City community; the presentation
19 helps these children become aware of the dangers surrounding
20 them, and how they can make healthy choices to resist these
21 dangers; to date, Steve has spent approximately 750 hours on
22 his project; and
23 WHEREAS, Steve Geroff is active in the Boys Scouts of
24 America, where he recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout;
25 at a ceremony, the local Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge
26 presented him with an award and encouraged Steve to represent
27 the Order in a Youth Awareness Program; and
28 WHEREAS, Steve Geroff has displayed extraordinary
29 commitment to serving his community with his talents; he has
30 demonstrated an outstanding record of volunteer service, peer
31 leadership and community spirit; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we congratulate Steve Geroff for achieving national
4 recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a
5 2001 Prudential Spirit Of Community Award; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to Steve Geroff as an expression of our esteem.
