1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of William P. "Bill" Durbin, the
5 brother of United States Senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin,
6 who passed away on February 8, 2001; and
7 WHEREAS, William Durbin was born on August 28, 1929 in
8 East St. Louis, Illinois to William P. Durbin, Sr. and Ann
9 Durbin; he graduated from Central Catholic High School in
10 1947, from St. Louis University in 1958, and did graduate
11 work at Ohio State University; and
12 WHEREAS, William Durbin served in the United States Navy
13 on the USS Eversole during the Korean War and later worked
14 for the United States Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis,
15 Missouri and Washington, D.C; and
16 WHEREAS, William Durbin and his family lived in East St.
17 Louis, Illinois until moving to the Washington, D.C. area in
18 1973; he was a resident of Kensington, Maryland; and
19 WHEREAS, William Durbin helped improve the children's
20 ward of the hospital in his mother's home village of
21 Jurbarkas, Lithuania, which he and Senator Dick Durbin
22 visited in 1997; following his mother's death, he established
23 the Ann Kutkaite-Durbin Memorial Project to help fund
24 improvements for the Jurbarkas Hospital; he also took an
25 active role in other efforts to strengthen United States ties
26 to the Baltic nations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia; and
27 WHEREAS, The passing of William P. Durbin will be deeply
28 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving
29 wife of 48 years, Lorraine; his nine sons; his daughter; his
30 nineteen grandchildren; and his brothers, Senator Dick Durbin
31 and Robert E, Durbin; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of William
4 P. Durbin; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of William P. Durbin with our sincere
7 condolences.
