1 AN ACT in relation to vehicles.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5 changing Section 3-628 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 5/3-628)
7 Sec. 3-628. Bronze Star plates.
8 (a) Beginning January 1, 1996, in addition to any other
9 special license plate, the Secretary, upon receipt of all
10 applicable fees and applications made in the form prescribed
11 by the Secretary of State, may issue special registration
12 plates to residents of Illinois who have been awarded the
13 Bronze Star by the United States Armed Forces. The special
14 plate issued under this Section shall be affixed only to
15 passenger vehicles of the first division or motor vehicles of
16 the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.
17 Plates issued under this Section shall expire according to
18 the staggered multi-year procedure established by Section
19 3-414.1 of this Code.
20 (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
21 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
22 Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to
23 be issued as vanity plates or personalized plates in
24 accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are
25 not required to designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in
26 subsection (b) of Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary
27 shall prescribe the eligibility requirements and, in his or
28 her discretion, shall approve and prescribe stickers or
29 decals as provided under Section 3-412.
30 (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
31 issuance in addition to the appropriate registration fee.

1 This additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary
2 of State Special License Plate Fund. For each registration
3 renewal period, a $2 fee, in addition to the appropriate
4 registration fee, shall be charged and deposited into the
5 Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
